When you create blog content, where do you begin? You know your blog is an essential resource, but how can you ensure the content you create is going to serve your audience well? Today, I’m excited to share 3 tips for writing purposeful blog content for your audience — to create what your audience will truly enjoy and want more of.

3 Tips for Writing Purposeful Blog Content

  1. Think about what your audience wants to read about, rather than what you want to write about. When I plan our future blog posts, I think about what our audience of creative small business owners would like to learn more about. What questions do they have on a daily basis? What areas of their businesses might they want to learn more about? When I put myself in our readers’ shoes, I am able to create blog posts that are rooted in service and in helping our readers. So, what questions do your readers have? What problems do they face on a daily basis — that your business provides a solution to? What are they hoping to learn more about? Think of your blog posts as the answers to your readers’ questions.
  2. Know your blog post may be read today, next week, next month, or next year. When you compose your blog content, try to create blog posts that will be relevant today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. When you share your blog posts on social media, they could be read today — but they could also be shared and read a year from today. (This is especially true if you share on Pinterest!) That being said, aim to create evergreen blog content — the type of content that will be as helpful in a year from now as it is today!
  3. Write your content as if you were speaking directly to one person. Finally, I try to write to “one person” — the person reading the blog post… you! When you write your blog post to one person, it’s easier to be conversational, to be helpful, and to bring your reader along on a journey. It’s when we, as business owners, try to write to “everyone” that blog content can become tough to write!
